The Molecular Phylogenetics Laboratory

The Dyche Hall Molecualr Phylogenetics Lab was established as a shared facility in 2005. It is managed by a committee of primary users and is utilized by approximately 30 researchers (including students)

We rotate through the space to accommodate so many people, so no one has assigned workstations

But each division (Herpetology, Mammalogy, Ornithology, Parasitology, Entomology, Ichthyology) has its own storage space

Due to some recent federal grant support, we have an impressive total of ten thermocyclers, six of which have gradient thermal blocks

At present, it's so crowded that we keep our freezers out in the halls...

We have a separate EtBr containment and gel photography room

Each division has a dedicated ultracold freezer and we all share a single back up -80°C freezer

Our in-house automated sequencer (an ABI 3130xl) is managed by Mike Grose (mjg at ku.edu) as part of the BI's Core DNA Sequencing Facility
