Fluid Collections Facility

The KU fluid specimen facility was constructed in 1996 with NSF and Kansas Sate Government funds

The facility houses over a million fluid-preserved biological specimens (amphibians, reptiles, mammals, birds, invertebrates, fishes)

The Fluid Wing is a state-of-the-art, four-story addition to Dyche Hall. There is room for expansion of an additional two floors as the collection grows. All collections are fully compactorized. Herpetology occupies two floors.

The accessions area and holotype specimens area (565 holotypes!) are both actively expanding as collections based research continues around the world

We have 80+ tanks that house larger specimens...

...and some truly amazing resources in the collection.

(and a bunch of overdue taxonomic updates pending)
