KOMAR, O., W. RODRÍGUEZ, & C. DUEÑAS. 1997. Notas sobre las aves de los bosques de manglar en la Bahía de La Unión, y una nueva especie de carpintero Picoides scalaris para El Salvador. Cotinga (Neotropical Bird Club) 7:16-17.

SUMMARY--We report the Ladder-backed Woodpecker (Picoides scalaris) for the first time in El Salvador, from the mangroves of the Bay of La Unión near the border of Honduras, seen and photographed on 6 August 1994. The status of this species in El Salvador remains unknown, but it probably is a resident of the mangroves and other habitats in the arid eastern portion of El Salvador. Additional species we report from the mangroves in the estuary of the Río Goascarán include Bare-throated Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma mexicanum), Roseate Spoonbill (Ajaia ajaja), Streak-headed Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes souleyetii), Rufous-browed Peppershrike (Cyclarhis gujanensis), and Mangrove Yellow Warbler (Dendroica petechia).
