Komar's Photo gallery for Montecristo N. P. Map of El Salvador's national parks Map of Montecristo in Mayan highlands During June and July 1999, Oliver Komar conducted an inventory of the breeding birds of Montecristo National Park, El Salvador, as part of a larger bird conservation project directed by Wilfredo Rodríguez of SalvaNATURA. The inventory estimated relative abundances of birds in cloud forest, pine-oak forest, and cypress plantations. One result was the first complete checklist of the park, which listed 233 species. Other results are listed below. The inventory, and related conservation work during 1999, was funded by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and SalvaNATURA. Komar's participation was supported by a National Science Foundation travel grant and graduate research fellowship, and by the Madison A. and Lila Self Graduate Fellowship at the University of Kansas.
