Marginal stomata: Apertures in complete mesenteries found near the margin of the body (Stephenson, 1918: p. 7), lying between the retractor muscles and the column wall (Stephenson, 1928: p. 37). The function of the stomata is to allow circulation of water between cavities of the coelenteron, not allowing stagnant water to form.
