RESEARCH INTERESTS:

A life-long interest in herpetology has led me down the crooked path of higher education. Among other things, I am interested in the morphology, systematics, biogeography, ecology, and general natural history of amphibians and reptiles.

My dissertation focuses on the morphology and systematics of the Limnonectes kuhlii complex. Limnonectes kuhlii, is a fanged frog found throughout much of Southern China, South East Asia, and as far west as India. Morphologically similar throughout its range, the identity of this “species” has been questioned by many, but dealt with by few. Resolution of the genetic and morphological differences within this complex at a population level will further our understanding of global biodiversity and facilitate informed conservation actions in the future.

During my time at KU, I have been active in fieldwork in Thailand (2003, 2004-2005) where I work closely with faculty and students and staff of Chulalongkorn University ( Bangkok), Sakaerat Environmental Research Station (Nakhon Ratchasima), and the National Research Council of Thailand. I will embark on a new project in Mongolia in Summer 2008. This will be a collaborative project focused on surveying the vertebrate parasite fauna of southern Mongolia. I am currently serving as the Director of Anatomy labs at the University of Kansas and as a lecturer for Human Anatomy.

My long-term goals are to continue working as an international educator at either secondary or postsecondary levels, integrating research and teaching as a way to expose students to the ecological and conservation issues of their home (or adoptive) countries.
