The Science of Sound

Buzz...Bang...Whoosh

March 2008

Visitors were invited to come make some noise and explore the nature of sound at the museum during our Science of Sound event. Participants twirled tubes to make them whistle, sang a tune in our shower, built and tested fart machines, tried on bat ears, listened like whales, mimicked the call of a duck-billed dinosaur, observed sound waves in flames – and much more. Visitors sang along with the “99 Bottles” themed gallery trail that highlighted how animals use sound, and “Sound Bites” posted throughout the museum provided quick sound related facts.
