Invasion of the Creepy Crawlies
March 2004
This was a chance to delve into the science of creepy crawly insects through demonstrations, experiments and hands-on activities. We explored insect life through ‘bug-glasses’, matching games, mazes that followed the activities of social insects, and performing the honeybee dance. What makes an insect was revealed through specimens, quizzes and participants building their own bugs.
  • The Creepy Crawly Trail involved a search throughout the museum to reveal insects that can be found in the exhibits.
  • Adventurous visitors ate ants, crunched crickets, munched mealworms, and gobbled grasshoppers while learning how most of the world eats insects as a regular and nutritious part out their diet.
  • This event also marked the grand opening of Bugtown, the museum's new insect-themed discovery lab.
