Science Summer Day Camps

Follow the trail in a high-tech scavenger hunt, get muddy while learning about wetland creatures, dig for fossils, launch a rocket, or solve a mystery at the museum in our one-day Summer Science Camps. Participants explore nature and science through demonstrations, hands-on activities, and experiments in the museum and out in the field.

All programs run one day from 10 am to 3 pm, are appropriate for ages 8 to 11, and cost $80. Museum Friends receive a 20% discount.

Dinosaur Detectives

Dig into the past with a simulated dinosaur dig. Learn how to identify dinosaurs and other fossils that provide clues to reconstructing extinct creatures and the ancient environment in which they lived.

Geology Explorations

Become a field geologist for a day! Learn about rocks, minerals and fossils while exploring the geology of Kansas.

Forensic Fun

A crime has been committed at the KU Natural History Museum. Join our investigation and learn forensic science techniques such as footprint and fingerprint identification, hair and DNA analysis to help solve the mystery.

Geocaching

Geocaching (Gee-oh-cashing) is a high-tech scavenger hunt that uses a GPS unit to locate hidden caches all over the world. Participants will learn the basics of directions, maps and GPS navigation, then use these skills to try and track down a cache. It is traditional to leave something small behind when you find a cache (pen, coin, mini-flashlight, etc.) - so you may want to bring something to leave for the next explorers.

Space Odyssey

Blast off for space adventure. Discover the principles behind stars, meteors and more. Build and test your own rocket. Don’t worry – it is rocket science.

Aquatic Biology

Make a splash in this popular program that explores our local waters. Use nets and buckets to collect and identify common aquatic plants and animals. Be prepared to get muddy and wet!
