Comanche
Comanche is often mistakenly thought to have been Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer’s horse. Actually, Comanche was owned by Captain Myles Walter Keogh.
To learn more go to the National Park Service Little Bighorn Battlefield website.

Comanche is a Seventh Cavalry horse that survived the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn, where General George Armstrong Custer and his men were soundly beaten by Indians they sought to force onto reservations.

Long a popular attraction to the museum, the specimen has been moved to a new, modern exhibit case that will help to ensure its conservation for another century. Restoration has been completed, and visitors can now view Comanche at its permanent gallery on the fourth floor.
